So, um, ah, er, anyway, and….. ahh yes, filler words. I just closed out of CapCut after making an honest attempt at creating my first video for my blog. My use of too many “ums” and “ahs” means I need more practice to make my videos worthwhile.
So, as I sit here waiting for my expensive eggs to cook, I’m going to write what I wanted to tell you in the video.
I spent almost the entire month of January thinking about and working on what products on this blog would be most beneficial for you in 2025. And here’s what I came up with:
First, I’ll be writing a humor column every week - humorous creative nonfiction - because I feel there’s not enough of that around anymore and humor is a strong suit of mine. When I was growing up, I read talented writers like Dave Barry and Erma Bombeck, and I’m looking forward to producing that kind of column for you. This week’s first installment starts with Welcome to Aine’s Restaurant, and it’s ready to be read. I hope you like it. ❤️
Okay, random story about how I got to what’s next. Over the holidays, we drove the four and a half hours to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Aquarium. What a great place! There is the whale shark who is a celebrity and a seas lion show that was so inspiring that I cried. (For me, I’d rather see cool animals or fish - better than celebrity sightings!) On the way, my husband and I, bored, started listening to 1950s radio shows on Sirius XM. (And that didn’t lead to more boredom you ask?) We started listening to some show called Johnny Dollar Insurance Investigator! Mr. Dollar, if you don’t know, is the insurance investigator with the action packed expense account! (That’s what the announcer says). Every week Mr. Dollar has to solve a murder - all by himself. Sometimes he solves it in the twenty-one minute episode and other times he takes a few episodes. The writers crafted the episodes really well, and I wondered why similar stories are unpopular now. I love a good mystery - I just finished reading Murder at Styles, a Poirot mystery from Agatha Christie, and I couldn’t put it down.
So… (there’s another filler word…)
Coming soon, every two weeks you will see an installment of a cozy mystery serial that will be action-packed with murder and mayhem. The setting will be Allen Beach, New Jersey - the same setting in my book The Church Ladies League, and although there will be new characters, some of our old friends from my book will be stopping by to assist in the investigation. This week I am going to Washington, DC, for my uncle’s service at Arlington National Cemetery, and I will craft the story while I hurry up and wait at the airport.
And I will post my usual interesting stories about something I think you’ll find entertaining. I want this blog to be somewhere you can come and read something funny, uplifting, and you’ll connect with characters who are trying to solve a good old mystery.
To finish it off, look for my next book, The Jack Plan, to arrive before summer!
I’m excited and I hope you are too!
As for what else I’ve been up to?
Two weeks ago the mayor of Southtown, Mr. Thistlewhite, got his wish - Snow Miser sent five and a half inches of snow to the Lowcountry of South Carolina!
I wasn’t thrilled about this. First, it was 18 degrees outside, and our house—built for hot weather—lacked the provisions for cold and snow. Second, I was trapped inside with two hungry teenagers and dwindling food supplies.
Eventually it melted. And now it’s 80 degrees and I’m sweating.
I hope you are having a wonderful start to 2025 and I’m looking forward to this year!
Here’s this week’s column:
Bienvenue Au Restaurant d’Aine
What you are reading right now is a combination column and press release because I have big news. You might ask yourself, how could Aine Dyer, a simple mom from South Carolina by way of New Jersey, be releasing an all important press release? What kind of press will she be releasing?
You look beautiful 🤍 and I cannot stop laughing. It’s like we are back in the car driving to Salt Creek!!!
